its Monday ... did you watch Football?

i pretty much watched NFL football all day yesterday. and, mostly, it put me in a foul mood. here's to fun! overall it wasn't bad (the Saints absolutely crushed the hapless Lions who were led by a rookie QB). the big win for the Saints is great but ... i'm concerned it sets them up for failure against a tougher team. this game was still pre-season for New Orleans. they didn't need to play defense or run the ball (which they did both of but, again, it was against the Lions). the Kool-Aid is strong down here (lots of folks wearing Saints jerseys) which is good but let's temper our hopes. every game from here on out is infinitely more difficult (well, maybe not infinitely more difficult but definitely tougher).
my Fantasy team took it on the chin which is news that is only interesting to myself. honestly, i don't know what to expect from fantasy football. there is no rhyme or reason when trying to distill individual accomplishment in the most team-oriented of sports. i guess, like a lot of things that Americans invest in, it requires a lot of luck.
random NFL observations for those still reading:
1. teams that won big here in Week 1 will be over-rated. and vice versa for losers. exceptions to this rule will be - WINNERS: Steelers, Vikings, Giants, Packers, 49ers. i'm a little bit skeptical on Minnesota. they do have Adrian Peterson and that defense (good) but they also have Brett Favre who will be 40 years old soon (not good). i don't know if Favre can contain himself and let the rest of the team make plays (he just needs to stay out of the way and "manage"). Jay Cutler certainly needs to learn this but probably won't this year. i feel like Chicago (especially with LB Brian Urlacher out) is going to be a 8-8 or 9-7 squad that scores 35 one game and looks great (against bad teams) while sucking to better teams (like last night in Green Bay).
LOSERS: we all know who you are but, here we go: Rams, Dolphins (no offense), Broncos, Bengals, Lions, Bucs, Panthers, Cardinals. i'd put the Texans on here but they always seem to struggle early and they do have a brutal early schedule. things should open up for them in the middle of the year when they get to play Oakland, Arizona, Cincy, SF, and Buffalo all in a row.
STILL WAITING: tonite's Monday Football contests on ESPN where the highly touted Chargers take on the woeful Raiders and the highly touted Patriots take on the hapless Bills.
Spots!
i mean, Sports!

rain for days

that's what its doing in New Orleans these days. raining.
3 random things to flesh out this post:
1. i ate fish for dinner.
2. NFL football is about to really kick off.
3. mosquitoes love to bite me.
--
Bonus! 3 more things:
1. i will eat fish again for dinner (for those keeping score at home that's "two dinners in a row with fish ... possibly the same fish").
2. this manufactured and propaganda-fueled "anti-socialism" rant that the GOP is mounting to keep President Obama from enacting some sort of healthcare for US citizens is absurd. never mind the fact that government-run healthcare will have its problems (bigger problems than most folks just going WITHOUT healthcare because they can't afford it? i think not) BUT where was the outrage (or media coverage of the outrage) when President Bush went to war in Iraq? talk about spending the taxpayer's money in the wrong spot. yes, we may not be able to afford healthcare now but that ain't the new guy's fault. that's George "Spend like There is No Tomorrow" Bush and his unpopular and faulty Iraq Invasion. GOP politicians are getting so worked up (so much so that they are yelling insults at the President as he tries to speak to them) that the facts on the issue(s) are losing clarity. not a big surprise from Washington. it is kind of ridiculous that folks in Congress don't want healthcare for poor folks ... while poor folks and other taxpayers pay for their complete lifelong healthcare (and other things).
share the wealth, assholes.
3. its still raining in New Orleans.

as High as the Sky

last bit of "image only" posts until sports commentary (comin' in future posts). football season is upon us (although it is definitely still summer in southern Louisiana and will be for about 2 more months). hope springs eternal here in New Orleans regarding the Saints (even though fall is a more technically accurate seasonal term) (hopefully not too technically accurate) (that word being "fall"). we'll go with hope. for now. go Saints.

its all about "going green" these days
